Summertime Picnic

So we had a wonderful summertime picnic Farnsworth style.....okay, okay, Douglas style.Doug invited the missionaries over (two sets) for some lunch.

We decided to make it a picnic.

The kids LOVE picnics in the backyard.

Douglas cooked up some great food and despite the heat we had a blast!

Hannah Montana in 3-D

Annahlise came over on July 26th! Chloe was so happy.....actually between the two of them the feeling was mutual. We started her visit off with a bang! We partied and watched the Hannah Montana Concert in 3-D on the Disney Channel with our 3-D glasses! Chloe even brought out her disco light for it. So fun!

Preston thought he was cool as he took this pic of Hannah Montana! Yeah, it's our TV. LOL!

SHOGUNS

James Yee took us to SHOGUNS! This was the coolest place. I had never been and was blown away by the amazing food. So yummy! We will be going back for sure. Look it up everyone and head on over there...you won't be disappointed. This was WAY better than Bennihanas. The kids had a blast. Be warned though---they give you a TON of food!

This week

We did manage to have some fun this week too. I even have a couple of pics to prove it! Ha ha. I took the kids to a free movie at Ontario Mills (Edwards Theater). We saw Everyone's Hero and it was awesome!

*As a side note Regal Cinemas offers free movies for families during the summer. Here they are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You can go to their website to see if they are offered in your state. http://www.regmovies.com/nowshowing/familyfilmfestivalschedule.aspx

We also had a little family time and went to Chevys for their kids eat free night. We told it was close to Derek's birthday so he could get a cool sombrero! Ha ha we are funny!

Tagged: Memory Lane

I saw this on my friends blog and thought it would be fun to do, tagged or not! Enjoy Ü

Let's take a trip down Memory Lane....Do you remember when?

Here are the rules:

1. As a comment on my blog, leave a memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you know me a little or a lot, anything you remember(it can involve the family or even my husband too)!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll be sure to write one about you.

3. If you can't say something nice, don't say nothin' at all!

4. Consider this a Tag: if you've read it, you have to do it!

The Curse of the Small Feet

Is there anything more frustrating in the world than having small feet? Seriously! I have lived with this infliction for all my life and it stinks! I think I first noticed my feet were small when I was in 7th grade. The movie Aladdin had just come out and I loved it. A few days after the movie had come out I was at the mall with some friend and I spotted Aladdin shoes---they were in my size! Awesome! I couldn't resist and I purchased them immediately. Yeah, I know. So back in 7th grade my small feet had a little advantage. In High School I began to realize having small feet was a pain! It suddenly mattered what I put on my feet and finding shoes that looked normal (for my age) in my size was nearly impossible. Thank goodness for converse and brands that had the same style kid and adult shoes. Ordering my cheerleading shoes became expensive. I had to special order my kids size 3 by mail. My mom wasn't too happy about that. Finding high heel shoes for dances was a nightmare as well. Nowadays I still have a hard time finding shoes and I hate to shoe shop. Just this summer I was trying to find myself some sandals. Do you know how hard it is to find kid shoes that don't light up these days? Ridiculous! Why do you need lights on your shoes anyway?

Anyway, Derek has small feet. Derek is just plain small for his age. My friend called the other day to let me know that stores now had their soccer stuff out and in just 2 weeks soccer practices would be starting for my kids. She told me that these stores run out of soccer supplies by the time Ayso starts around here so to get to the stores in the next couple of days. Since the kids and I didn't have plans on Saturday I decided to go soccer shopping. After going to 7 stores Derek now has soccer cleats. They are a little big on him but they are the smallest they make 'em. He wears a size 7 in toddlers and the cleats are a size 8. Oh well, they'll probably still fit him next year. I now am a pro at soccer shopping. I can tell you where the specialty soccer only shops are located and everyone's current pricing on youth soccer items. Oh yeah....hello soccer mom!

Helmet Hair

Chloe LOVES having a helmet. She likes the attention it brings. We still need to get her some stickers for it. This is Chloe at Cocoa's, Raging Waters, and ready for church! At least she sports the helmet without complaining. Right?

Free Haircuts and Shakes

Today we headed to SuperCuts for some free haircut fun. Nothing says a good time like taking 7 kids in for haircuts......Okay so we had 5 kids get haircuts and Douglas and I too. Charlie, Melanie and Samantha just watched. Then we had to go to Chick-Fil-A and say "K-Frog sent me to get a free shake." We were able to get 8 free shakes. We all opted for the Cookies and Cream Shakes which were DELICIOUS. Yummy. Little Charlie and Clover even got their own shakes! The shakes were HUGE and had whipped cream and cherries even. We are talking quality here people. So this little promotion is going on all week. Guess who's going back 2morrow? Ha ha. We'll see......

Thank you Lynsey for letting me know about this sweet deal! Wahoo!

The Short Bus Has Arrived

The short bus came today and officially parked itself. Chloe has a brand new helmet to prove it. She gets to tromp around in it until AFTER the first week of school. "Oh here, new Kindergarten teacher, here is our daughter Chloe. She has a broken skull and she is diabetic. Have a fun time with her." That teacher won't be afraid of her or anything. Ha ha.
So Doug's friend is going to make her some sweet stickers to "jazz" up the helmet a bit. He's making one that says "short bus not included" and another that says "Caution: Head trauma may cause Rudeness to occur." We think we are funny. These pics of Chloe in her helmet are going to be some serious jokes later on in life. "Oh, you want to date my daughter huh? Were you aware that she used to ride the short bus?" Or I can see her High School yearbook now with short bus photos plastered in the Seniors section. We'll stick the Dunce cap pics for that too. Ah, we are good parents.

Chloe's head is protected now. Her doctor is much happier now. He still checks in everyday and what not. So now I have another summer goal: Take pics of Chloe sporting a helmet at as many places as I can. For memories sake of course.

Weiners

Yesterday was Free Chili Dog day (or ice-cream cone) at the Weiner place. Derek must have asked me a dozen times yesterday, "can we go to the wieners now?" Pretty funny stuff huh? So we went for dinner with Melanie and her crew. Melanie and I are going to see how many free things we can hit up this summer with our herd. We have gotten in Chick-Fil-A, Ant Bully movie, Slurpees at 7-11, and now Wienerschnitzel. What's next?? We shall see. BRING IT ON!
Thank you Wienerschnitzel!

Chloe Cracked Up!

Oh yeah Chloe cracked up bad this time! No, she's not laughing or on the "cracked corn", she "BROKE HER HEAD." That was an official statement from the oriental ER doctor on her condition. He kept saying "she broke her head. It cracked all the way, both sides, big big crack." Alright, we got it. So yesterday Chloe was dancing on the trash can---(yes that's what she said she was doing) and she fell off and landed on the concrete. Nice huh? Well, she seemed fine except she did have a red mark on her head. No bump. I put ice on it and after a few minutes she stopped crying and all seemed just fine. Then her eyes got dilated, and she began throwing up. So I called Lynsey Drew. Lynsey told me she probably had a concussion and just to watch her. She told me if she threw up more than a few times to take her in to get checked just in case. She also emailed me some info on head trauma. Lynsey's awesome like that. So we went to bed. Chloe was up constantly throwing up so I finally took her into the ER.

The ER trip was looooonnnngggg. They did a CT scan and found that her brain looked really good (so far), her skull was cracked from the top of her head down to the bottom. And it was cracked all the way through. They informed us that for the next 24-48 hours we really needed to make sure she stayed down and didn't eat any food. She can only have liquids. Since she is throwing up so much they don't want to have her eat food and have too much pressure throwing it up. This could cause the brain to swell or bleed they say. They let us know that the brain swells really slowly and some internal bleeding (if it's just a small vein) can take awhile to show up on a CT scan.

Chloe is home and feeling bored. She seems fine though. If she becomes unconscious or has a hard time walking, or becomes dizzy, or any of that I have to take her back in immediately and have more CT scans done. She also has to go to her pediatrician on Monday to get checked again. Hopefully she continues to do as well as she's doing now. Other than being hungry and really tired she is acting quite normal.

No more dancing on trash cans for Chloe.

Friends for-"heifer"

Today was "udderly" divine for my kids. Our "moo"-valous day started by the kids helping me make cow costumes. This was a must of our day to begin. We took out the kitchen trash bags, cut a hole in the top, two holes on the sides (one hole on each side) and drew black spots on them with Sharpies. This was for our big lunch with "moo" kids on the block---Taylor and Clover Cowell. Melanie was coming to pick us up at noon. We printed off some cow face masks and cut out some extra black construction paper spots. We were ready when Melanie came. We cow piled the herd into the van after suiting up as cows. We were off to our lunch destination: Chick-Fil-A.

Today was Cow Appreciation Day. That's right all who dressed as cows were awarded with any combo meal of their choice free of charge. With Melanie's two kids and my four kids we would have spent about $50 for the amount of food we ate free.

Preston was so brave and didn't scream bloody murder when the Chick-Fil-A cow was greeting cows (people) as they entered Chick-Fil-A. This is a HUGE deal if you know Preston and his fear of overly-large heads.
It was so awesome that when we went to order it was none other than Tiffany Heupal taking our food order. She got a good laugh at us. She did tell us that we were way smart for using trash bags. I think she may have even used the word "clever." Yeah, I am clever---or I actually read the Chick-Fil-A's website costume suggestions, either one. Whatever, minor details. I'll take being clever.
The free food was great. Really is there any better tasting food than free food? And eating at a place where it doesn't matter if the children spill a hundred times. It is always nice to eat at the food joint too...bringing home fast food is a pain since it fills up my trash can in the matter of minutes. So eating out is wonderful!

The kids all got their own kids meals. Hey, I am cheap and so my kids don't get their own kids meals very often. This is a splurge item...a drink and fries?? Wow! This was their lucky day. And all they had to do was dress up like a cow! In public! No problem! In fact, for my kids who are obsessed with dressing up...this was a dream come true! To be rewarded for dressing up with free food! Awesome. Being allowed out of the house in dress up clothes would have been reward enough for my kids. A free kids meal was just over the top!

After we were all pretty full and the kids had burned plenty of calories in the kiddie play area, we headed to our next stop.....for dessert! *On a side note, Clover won for eating the most chicken at lunch. The girl chowed her kids meal, Derek's kids meal, and most of Chloe's kids meal. She rocked it 2 year old style.

Yep, we hit the local 7/11. Hey, it's July 11th (or 7/11/08) so it's free slurpee day too! That's right, we didn't pay for lunch so shoot--we weren't gonna pay for dessert either! Ha ha. We were rockin' the free food thing. You can't ever get too much of a good thing right?

Check out those kid's faces! Those are some happy kids right there! Oh yeah. Mommy of the year awards are gonna be pouring in for Melanie and I. I know it. I can feel it coming.
The kids wanted to swim after 7/11 so we home, grabbed our suits and headed to Melanie's house. Oooohhh, on the way to her house she just had to show some crazy house. This house is out of control! Are these people stuck in Mardi Gras? What is wrong with them? Or am I just not normal? We want to try to trick or treat there on Halloween. I say try cause I'm not really sure that we are brave enough. If any of you know the people who live there, INTRODUCE me! I need to meet these people.

We let the kids swim their little hearts out. This is yet another dream thing for my kids to do. They LOVE to swim and since we do not have a pool, swimming is a real treat.

By the time we finished swimming it was nearly time for Charlie to get picked up so we went home. That's when we decided, why make dinner? We could get free food again. Chick-fil-a had more than one combo meal on the menu. We could try something new. We were going back! And if we were gonna hit up Chick-Fil-A again, then we might as well go to 7/11 too.

Yes, we are cool moms. We don't just spoil our kids we spoil them rotten. Okay so maybe not rotten but we do hook 'em up when we get a chance. Even if it means making a fool of ourselves. I loved that when we went back to Chick-Fil-A, Andrea Heupal was there to help us (she's Tiffany's little sister). Oh, and the kids were able to give their toy back (from their kids meal) and get an ice cream cone instead. And when we went back to 7/11 (with our saved slurpee cups from the first trip) the dude yelled at us and told us we couldn't come back for anymore refills. He said that was enough. We hit our limit, he cut us off. That was fine with us. Two is good.

Ahh, Melanie is my kind of girl. Not afraid to be crazy, not afraid to haul her kids around town, and she knows how to party. She, like me, will also do anything to get the big "deal." We already have plans for Chipotle in October and are planing on making July 11th an annual event. Melanie truly is a friend for-"heifer"!

Monkey gets a Monkey

Our lil Monkey Derek got a new monkey the other day. We were at the Mills just killing some time window shopping when we found ourselves letting Derek build-a-monkey. Preston and Chloe both have created a build-a-bear stuffed animal before but Derek never has. Douglas and I decided that it could be an early birthday present for him. He was so excited. Derek has a curious george monkey that he is VERY attached to. He loves curious george and takes him everywhere with us. He also has started telling us his feelings using curious george. Strange I know. It goes something like this:

"Mommy, Georgie is mad cause Preston is not being nice. He is so angry. Preston pushed him."

And he'll often tell us when he did something wrong too using good 'ole georgie.

"Mommy georgie accidentally spilled the milk all over the floor. Ummm hmmm. He did. He said sorry though so he's not in trouble huh? Georgie is so sorry. It was an accident. We have to clean it."

Anyway, I was interested to see what he would do with another monkey. He named the monkey......Georgie. Wow what a surprise. Two george monkeys. Great. We got home and he ran to get Curious George and said, "Georgie, I got your Daddy!" And there it is. Build-a-Bear Monkey George is Curious George's Daddy. he plays with both of them and he sleeps with both of them.

American Girl Hospital

Chloe's doll Samantha has some serious problems. Ouchies.....big ones. Her eyes will no longer open and close. This is totally terrifying to our little 5 year old Chloe. She was a mess when she discovered this. A total freak out in the car on the way home from Vegas. I had to pull over to calm her down. So on Monday, July 7th, we headed out with Charlie, Mary, and Kailyn to the American Girl Store in LA. Chloe was initially all excited about going to the doll hospital--she was all for getting her doll fixed. But all of a sudden on Monday morning she started to become less excited. In fact, she sort of became against it! That's right...she no longer wanted to take her doll to the hospital because she didn't want to leave Samantha somewhere. She was worried that it would take too many days and she would miss her doll too much. She cried! I know, crazy. Douglas and I had to talk her into taking her doll again. Chloe finally became okay with the idea before Mary came to pick us up (thankfully).

The girls had a fun time at the store. Chloe cried a tiny bit when she gave the guy at the Hospital Admissions counter her doll. He had her dress her doll in a hospital gown and wrap her in a hospital blanket......seriously, I'm not kidding. American Girls are SERIOUS about their dolls. Chloe will get her doll back in two to three weeks with brand new eyeballs.

Two 7th Graders in da HOUSE

Yeah, you read that right. There are now two 7th graders in the Farnsworth house. I know it's insane. When did this happen? Well, Doug has always been in 7th grade. Him and his coworkers and buddies. Forever in 7th grade--all of them. You know the type, the type that tries to fart on each other and constantly tells "who cut the cheese" jokes. The kind of person that walks around and titty-twisters complete strangers and what not....they are FOREVER stuck in 7th grade. Well, i am sure that you all know that Doug is like the 7th grade class captain but recently Preston joined his rank.

Yep, it's true. It started with an innocent question yesterday, "Mom, can I google something?"

"Um, what do you want to google?"

"I'm bored. I want to google Crazy Frog."

"What the heck is Crazy Frog?"

"Oh, just this really funny videos with music and stuff."

Videos?? Oh great. "Um, is it a cartoon?"

"Yeah mom. You can see it. You will laugh your head off."

"Sure Preston go ahead. Google Crazy Frog." I let him go and then slowly made my way to the computer room. I had to see first of all if he could google it on his own and then I had to personally check out Crazy frog. So I sneak behind him and he gets onto Fiefox like a pro. Then he googles crazy frog. He then scrolls down and finds the selection he wants and clicks on it. The link takes him to YouTube. WONDERFUL, I am thinking....a 7 year old on youtube. Not good. So then the video starts and Preston immediately starts singing along and laughing so hard. He was laughing uncontrollably and even fell off the chair. You can check it out if you want.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCj-RyKCmHQ

So it's a naked frog? GROSS.....no more youtube for preston. Enjoy all you 7th grader boys of the world. I like how the video has been viewed so many times....why? I don't get it. It's nasty and stupid. My son will not be in 7th grade yet. Back to 2nd grade Preston.

Our 4th

Okay so the 4th of July, Doug had to work. Stink huh? So I never made any plans. I can't believe how fast it crept up on me. The Drew's ended up coming over for some chow and then we went and saw the fireworks at the Vons parking lot. By the time we were done eating and what not we were not about to even attempt the church parking lot. We had a fun time. The kids liked the fireworks and only plugged their ears at the beginning. I had fun entertaining myself with my camera trying it out on "fireworks" setting. Yeah my cool camera has an actual fireworks setting on it. Crazy huh? Anyway, it was interesting. The kids also got to play with poppers. Oh fun huh? I know I am just outta control with the festivities---yeah right. Not this time at least. How was your 4th?

Kit Movie

The Kit movie finally came out today! Wahoo! I had been waiting for it for so long. I promised Mary and Kailyn that Chloe and I would go see the movie with them the day it came out. So we headed out for the 10:35am showing at Ontario Mills. Samantha got to come with us too. Thankfully Kelsey was able to babysit the boys and Charlie for me for a couple of hours! Thanks Kelsey! Chloe had wanted to bring her Samantha doll and my Kit doll to the movie but her Samantha doll has issues right now.......We took her Samantha doll on vacation with us and chloe sort of left her in the car overnight. We were in Las Vegas at the time. So she melted and when she cooled down again, she looked fine (you couldn't tell that she melted) except her eyes no longer open and close. Well when Chloe discovered this on our way home from Vegas she started screaming hysterically. I was able to calm her down by assuring her that the doctors at the American Girl hospital could fix her Samantha doll. Whew. So now it looks like we'll be making a LA trip here soon. Anyway, I told her not to take Samantha and so Chloe took Kit instead.
The movie was so cute. A tear jerker too. Maybe I am just a wuss and cry at everything but it made me cry- more than once. The movie was nicely put together. So go see it if you haven't already! Chloe liked it too. She cried in it too! Like mother like daughter I guess.
